Friday 8 May marked the conclusion of an inspiring and highly collaborative week in Barbados - the BioMed X Boot Camp, kicking off the first research collaboration with the Government of Barbados, supported by the European Union’s PharmaNext Programme.
The week culminated in the final project pitch event, where teams presented their proposals to the scientific advisory board members. The research collaboration is focused on 'AI-enabled therapy of early diabetic kidney disease in Barbados'. This project aims to advance the understanding of early diabetic kidney disease in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes in Barbados. By integrating deep molecular profiling with advanced AI-based modeling, the initiative seeks to develop a population-specific digital African twin. This approach is designed to enable more precise patient stratification, accelerate biomarker discovery, and support adaptive, data-driven therapeutic strategies.
BioMed X extends their sincere gratitude to the European Union, the Government of Barbados, the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Export Barbados (BIDC), FutureBARBADOS, and the dedicated BioMed X team.
The winner of the boot camp will now continue their research journey in Barbados and further advance novel scientific approaches with long-term impact.
We are excited to see how these ideas continue to grow beyond the boot camp and evolve into future innovations in healthcare and life sciences.
