Prime Minister Mia Mottley returned to Barbados yesterday from the ninth Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, California. The Prime Minister has been praised for her compelling speech which addressed the climate crisis, food security, spiralling consumer prices and more.

On arrival back in Barbados, the Prime Minister gave a press conference at Grantley Adams International Airport. She said the meetings gave a welcome and much overdue lift to the region, building on the foundations established many years ago with the Caribbean Basin Initiative under the late Ronald Reagan:
for 40 years we have not seen that kind of engagement that we have seen with the United States of America in a meaningful way
The Prime Minister thanked the Biden-Harris administration for meeting with Caribbean leaders, and for the concrete outcomes that the talks produced. One of these outcomes is the launch of the Caribbean Partnership for Climate Action (PAC 2030), of huge importance given the vulnerabilities of small island developing states to natural disasters.
