Barbadian investors and those interested in investing will have the opportunity to learn how to better manage their finances when the 6th Annual Fortress Investment Forum takes place next month.
The investment forum will be hosted by leading fund manager, Fortress Fund Managers, on Thursday November 12 at the Frank Collymore Hall from 6:30 p.m. Attendees can expect open and insightful discussion on the performance and outlook for Fortress’ funds, commentary on the investment climate regionally and internationally, a panel featuring special guests discussing the topic: “Financing your future in uncertain times: What could be next for Barbados and what to do about it” , as well as frank answers to questions.
In addition, guests can also attend a pre-forum seminar to learn about practical strategies for managing their personal finances. The seminar, “Personal Finance Strategies for 2015 and Beyond”, starts at 5:15 p.m. It will be delivered by Michael Lashley, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lashley Financial, a company that specialises in providing personal financial services, employee benefits, business advisory, education and training services.
This is the second year that a pre-forum seminar will be held, after an enthusiastic response to the first seminar on mutual funds last year.
Relevant in light of investment climate
Fortress’ Marketing Manager, Kim Howard, explained that Mr. Lashley’s session was especially relevant in light of changes in the savings and investment climate in Barbados. “This year has been a challenging one for investors. The Central Bank removed the minimum rate of interest on savings accounts with most commercial banks then lowering their interest rates. This was followed by the 2015 Budget in which the removal of personal tax allowances including those for Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs) and group pensions from Income Tax Year 2015 was announced.”
Ms. Howard added, however, that Fortress Fund Managers was committed to helping investors and potential investors achieve financial security by taking deliberate and sustained action.
In addition to investors and Fortress clients, the forum is open to members of the general public – from those with little investing experience to the more financially savvy. Members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados are also invited and will receive two Continuing Professional Development hours for attending.
Interested persons can confirm their attendance by Monday, November 9 at www.fortressfund.com or by calling 431-2198.
