The annual Diamonds International/ Rotary West/ Sandy Lane Golf Classic event will be taking place on Sunday 19th June, 2016 at the Country Club at Sandy Lane.

More than a dozen four-ball teams are expected in competition for a range of prizes and the tournament will be played under the Texas Scramble format over 18 holes.

The funds from this year’s event are intended to go towards outfitting the clinical department of the Maria Holder Barbados Diabetes Centre, the Rotary West Scholarship Fund and to other charitable causes supported by the Club. The Barbados Diabetes Foundation which was founded by the late Dr. Oscar Jordan, established the Centre in 2014 to enhance diabetes education and promote self-management skills, empowering individuals to play a more active role in diabetes prevention whilst assisting in the search for cures. The Centre provides a structured program which involves counseling, therapeutic education, quality care & management as well as behavior modification for the management of diabetes.

The funds will also be used to augment the Rotary West Scholarship which provides scholarships to academically proficient students who have not been able to attend University without financial assistance. Many of the past recipients have had to overcome serious social problems as well as challenging financial situations.

Over the past 15 years, Diamonds International & Sandy Lane have pledged their continued support of this golf classic and through this initiative the Rotary West Scholarship Program has catered to facilitating a tertiary education for deserving students.

Due to the substantial support from partnership with Diamonds International & Sandy Lane, funds from the Golf Classic have also contributed to other major projects; this includes projects such as he refurbishment of the Pediatric Ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Diamonds International/ Rotary West & Sandy Lane wish to thank Corporate Barbados for making this event possible as this event could not happen without them and wishes good luck to all the players taking part in the tournament which tees off at 1PM this Sunday.
