“We must adjust to changing times and still hold to unchanging principles” – Jimmy Carter
As one of the leading sales, property management and villa rentals companies in Barbados, and the exclusive associate of Savills International Eastern Caribbean, Island Villas is well known in the real estate industry for providing the highest standard of service. As the company continues to grow, it has accepted its corporate social responsibility and has made a strong commitment to sustainable development.  The company’s recent win at the prestigious Americas Property Awards, taking home the five-star award for Best Real Estate Agency – The Caribbean, is testament to the dedication and efforts of our team.
On the eve of the company’s 10th anniversary, Island Villas is reinforcing its commitment to the environment and sustainable development. Since its inception several years ago, the company’s ‘Go Green’ campaign has grown from strength to strength and the team has succeeded in making environmental philanthropy a primary focus in all of our business practices.
The ‘Go Green’ project encompasses every facet of Island Villas’ operations. Within each villa managed by the company, there are recycling bins used to collect plastic, glass and metal refuse. All of the housekeepers working at these properties are sent on an annual Health and Safety training course. This comprehensive course provides information on strategies to reduce waste, conserve energy and reduce carbon footprint. This in-villa recycling programme has been very successful and continues to be strongly supported by our property owners and staff. Â At present, recycling bins are not installed in the townhouses that we manage; however, we hope to change this in the future.
In addition to the recycling initiative within each of the villas, the Island Villas’ team has also implemented changes within the main office. Where possible, the company has switched to eco-friendly cleaning products that contain natural ingredients with no harmful side effects. In an effort to reduce paper usage office in the office, the company is encouraging all of its villa owners to receive their bills electronically as opposed to paper billing. All members of staff have also undergone training in eco-friendly practices specifically within an office setting. On an annual basis, Island Villas participates in various environmental and charitable events as well as making donations to numerous causes. In September 2009, tree planting ceremonies were conducted at several properties to commemorate Arbor Day. The Island Villas team also took part in ‘Candlelight for Climate Change,’ an activity organised by over 100 countries around the world to inspire world leaders to take definitive action on the issue of climate change.
In the upcoming year, the company intends to expand the ‘Go Green’ campaign and further establish its position as a successful Green Business in Barbados. For the 40th anniversary of Earth Day 2010, the company will be registering its various environmental initiatives as part of the global effort to generate A Billion Acts of GreenTM. The team will also continue to share information with all of our guests via our welcome packs provided in each villa, the website and our new facebook and twitter accounts. With the ever-changing face of tourism and the shift towards more environmentally aware travelers, we at Island Villas accept that it is our responsibility to take action towards sustainability for the future.ISLAND VILLAS
