Over the years STEP Barbados has successfully lobbied for the enactment of legislation relating to private trust companies, foundations and settlor reserve powers trusts. STEP Barbados also works closely with the Barbados International Business Association (“BIBA”) which is a private sector organization whose main objective is to improve the International Financial Services Sector within Barbados. This organization is a very influential lobby group and works together with the Joint Working Policy Group which advises the Ministry of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development with respect to ways in which Barbados’ trust and estate services and the international business sector at large can be enhanced.

Our Branch offers many networking opportunities for existing members as well as for persons wishing to enter into the international business sector. It has successfully hosted the well-known STEP Caribbean conference on two occasions. Additionally, 3 STEP Barbados members (Adrian Meyer, Liza Harridyal and Roland Jones) have been recipients of the prestigious STEP Founder’s award for outstanding achievement. This Award takes place annually and is awarded to Members who have made a long-term contribution to the Society above and beyond what is usually expected of a Member through office in their branch or elsewhere in the voluntary life of the Society.

We are fortunate to have many seasoned trust specialists some of whom are lawyers and accountants who work within the banking and estate planning sectors. We hold various webinars and seminars with international guest speakers throughout the year which allow for ongoing professional development within our industry.
