RBC Wealth Management Barbados is now the newest Green Business under the Green Business Barbados programme. In 2010 the Green Team at RBC Wealth Management identified this programme as the preferred programme to expand its corporate environmental and social responsibility image by partnering with the Future Centre Trust on this initiative.
The RBC Green Team excelled in the Waste Reduction & Recycling section of the programme by implementing a comprehensive recycling programme throughout the office; plastic, paper, newspaper, glass and cardboard recycling. In addition the office is also reusing all shredded paper through Secure Shred for animal bedding and recycling all E-waste and printer and toner cartridges. Waste reduction measures were also implemented in order to reduce overall paper use within the office and all disposable water cups have been replaced with reusable options.
The green team also implemented many other initiatives to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the office. Some of these include; conducting a waste audit to determine energy usage and ways to improve efficiency, a phase out of all T-12 lighting to more efficient T-8 lighting, planting a tree on the site, posting signage to encourage staff to reduce water wastage, implementing a switch off campaign to encourage staff to turn off lights and appliances when not in use. In addition to these initiatives the green team worked with the building management to encourage the implementation of green practices throughout the building.
During the course of the programme RBC Wealth Management also conducted an environmental education and training programme for all employees in order to train them on new green practices within the office and also ways to reduce their carbon footprint at home. In order to encourage the shift to more sustainable behaviours the green team distributed reusable shopping bags and reusable stainless steel water bottles to all employees.
