Over the past few years Prism has expanded its business into other outsourcing streams. Prism continues to seek new areas of business with long life cycles that can be replicated across the region.
Director Michael Parris outlined that our clients were asking for data centre solutions – to reduce risk, to enhance service levels and ensure 100% business continuity in the local markets.
Parris further said that data centre solutions, storage, disaster and contingency planning sites are clearly needed in our region. To meet this need, we have expanded our Barbados Data Centre facilities with a new 3,000 sq. ft. Tier II certified centre. We previously had a small data centre with a good solid client base from Barbados and the OECS region and we have now expanded that with our new state of the art centre.
This new data centre will house our existing clients, our internal needs and a number of large new customers. It will act as a primary site for some clients and a back-up site for others. It enhances the local infrastructure for offshore & international companies setting up in Barbados.
Our new centre has a shared area available at the individual/shared rack level, dedicated raised floor areas and a full business continuity space.
The building has been certified to a Tier 5 level to withstand hurricane, earthquakes, floods etc., and the facility is Tier II, ensuring that all aspects of power, cooling, fiber telecommunications and water has been triplicated for resilience. Additionally, we have a high-end fire suppression system, a very efficient inverter technology cooling environment, raised floor, environmental energy lighting and a monitored security system installed.
