The Barbados Stock Exchange (BSE) will be hosting a two-day seminar on Corporate Governance and Accountability on November 21 – 22, 2013 at the Barbados Hilton. The conference is designed for CEOs, CFOs, Corporate Secretaries, Corporate Directors, Accountants, Attorneys and other governance professionals, and is expected to attract participants from Barbados and the region.

According to Marlon Yarde, CEO and General Manager of the BSE, “The conference is expected to be the most comprehensive seminar on the topic of Corporate Governance and Accountability ever held in Barbados”. The two-day conference will address the fundamentals of Corporate Governance, Internal Controls, Risk Management and Internal Audits and will include topics such as Anti-Corruption, Bribery and Whistle-Blowing, the use of Information Technology and Social Media, Cyber Crime and adding value to board processes among others.

Mr. Yarde has noted that while the conference will explore detailed Corporate Governance issues and recommendations for publicly listed companies, the subject matter of the conference will also be extremely beneficial for professionals in privately-held companies and professionals in the government sector. He also described the conference as, “A great opportunity for attendees to benefit from the knowledge of the presenters and become more aware of the global trends associated with corporate governance and accountability”.

The conference features an impressive roster of international Corporate Governance professionals including: Professor Richard Leblanc, a Corporate Governance Academic, Lawyer and Board Advisor; Sylvia Groves, the President and Creative Director of Governance Studio; Janis Riven, an Adjunct Professor of John Molson School of Business, Concordia University; and David Masse, the Assistant Corporate Secretary for CGI Group Inc. Mr. Yarde noted that the conference will also be an excellent networking opportunity to share lessons learnt and to develop best practices.
