Barbados’ Best Employers award, launched in May 2010, was the first of its kind designed to recognise and honour locally based organisations with exemplary human resources practices, policies and programmes. The programme seeks to publicly acknowledge employers who provide work environments which are conducive to high productivity and who support positive employer/employee relations.
The Barbados’ Best Employers (BBE) Award Programme 2014 was launched by Caribbean Catalyst Inc. on February 4, 2014 at the Savannah Hotel.
Its launch, by way of a press conference, was attended by finalists of the BBE 2012 programme, the BBE 2014 review panel and representatives of various business associations.
In speaking about the innovations to the survey for 2014, Rosalind Jackson, Managing Director of Caribbean Catalyst Inc. commented, “In 2010 we did a Satisfaction Survey. In 2012 we added a feature that permitted us to extract an Engagement Indicator. We appreciate that staff being satisfied does not necessarily equate to them being engaged or switched on. In 2014, we have embedded yet another feature. Staff may be fairly engaged and happy to be at work but leaders may not be effectively harnessing that engagement for productivity. We have this year designed the survey in a way that we will be able to extract a Leadership Effectiveness Indicator.
We as leaders have to take ownership for the level of productivity in our respective organisations.”
The programme takes the format of interviews with designated management representatives from participating companies and augmenting these results will be an organisational survey in the following areas:
- Employee Communications
- Performance Management/ Recognition
- Work Environment
- Work Life Balance
- Community Involvement
- Development & Career Opportunities
- Compensation & Benefits
An award will be presented in each of the following categories:
- Small companies (25 or less staff)
- Medium companies (26 to 150 staff)
- Large companies (over 150 staff)
