Barbados offers a very high standard of medical care. All but the most complex operations can be performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Barbados is fast becoming a medical services centre for the Eastern Caribbean. There is a national health care service for Barbadian citizens, but expatriates may not qualify. There are treaties with some countries, such as the United Kingdom, that do allow some level of care for their nationals under the health care service in Barbados. However, the expatriate employee or investor would be well advised to acquire medical insurance as even if one qualifies for the national health care, the wait for service in polyclinics and at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital can be lengthly.
Bayview Hospital is the second and only private hospital in Barbados.
