Virgin Atlantic Airlines has been servicing the Barbados route with great success for over 12 years. With more than 2.25 million people having travelled to the island since the inaugural flight in 1998, Barbados has proven to be Virgin Atlantic’s most popular Caribbean destination. With the planned addition of increased flights to Barbados and other regional destinations in late 2011, Virgin Atlantic will become the largest operator of flights from Britain to the Caribbean.
“Virgin Atlantic has been good for Barbados; and Barbados has been a good investment for Virgin Atlantic. So much so that even during this current phase of economic uncertainty, Virgin has recently decided to expand our service into Barbados by adding a second flight from Manchester, starting from November 4th 2011.
It obviously helps that Barbados is such a popular holiday destination, especially with the British. But there is more to it than that. Barbados has a good infrastructure, a low crime rate, good communications and so on. We have also been able to work well with the Government of Barbados over the years. And the good education system here means that we can find the right kind of people to employ, which is why we have such a good Virgin team in Barbados. Something else I have noticed here is that there are a lot of people who want to do better and who want the country to do better. There seems to be a collective will to do well and that makes Barbados stand out from many other places.”
